Turbo actuator can also be known as a waste gate actuator. The turbo actuator performs a simple but important role – it provides a pressure relief valve that controls the boost output of your turbo, redirecting excess exhaust gases away from the turbine wheel. This controls the speed of the turbine, preventing it from over-speeding, and regulating the speed of the compressor. This helps to guard the turbocharger from unnecessary wear and tear, by limiting the maximum boost pressure of the turbo to a safe level.
Almost all turbochargers come fitted with a waste gate actuator. As with all mechanical and electrical components, turbo actuators can present faults due extended levels of heat stress which weaken the internals and damage the electronics. This leads to the waste gate opening earlier than it should reducing the boost pressure and performance of your turbo. Faulty actuators can also cause an over-boost situation, putting the vehicle into limp home mode and sometimes leading to the boost pressure rising to a point that can causes serious damage to your motor.
Goss offer a range of OE equivalent Turbo actuators. All have been tested and validated for quality and performance. Check the catalogue at https://goss.com.au/catalogue/ for applications.
