Thermostat Housing & Outlets

The thermostat housing encloses the thermostat, which regulates coolant flow between the engine and radiator. It ensures the engine warms up quickly and maintains an optimal operating temperature.

The thermostat outlet (also called the thermostat cover or coolant outlet) allows coolant exits the housing and moves toward the radiator. Some housings have integrated sensors or additional coolant ports.

Common Issues

  • Cracks & Leaks – especially plastic ones, can develop cracks due to heat cycling and pressure changes.
  • Gasket Failures – The gasket or seal between the housing and engine can degrade, causing leaks.
  • Corrosion – Metal housings, especially aluminium, can corrode causing weak spots.
  • Warping – Excessive heat can warp plastic housings, leading to improper sealing and leaks.
  • Clogging – Old coolant and buildup can block the thermostat housing, affecting flow.
